Anaesthesia Services

The Department provides comprehensive perioperative anaesthesia care for more than 28 elective and emergency operating theatres daily. Our services extend across a wide range of specialties, including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Pediatric Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Maxillofacial Surgery, Onco-Surgery and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.The Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care plays a central role in patient care across the institute, managing a diverse and high-volume clinical workload. On average, our team delivers services for 2,700 major surgeries and 3,000 minor surgeries each month across various specialties.These numbers reflect the department's unwavering commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality anaesthesia and perioperative and postoperative care services for all specialties.

Critical Care Services

The department manages two state-of-the-art intensive care units: a 20-bedded Trauma ICU and a 30-bedded Modular ICU. ICU cater to a diverse spectrum of cases, managing polytrauma from accidents, major fractures, head injuries, and acute chest/abdominal trauma, obstetric emergencies such as severe preeclampsia, obstetric hemorrhage, and peripartum cardiovascular complications, medical crises encompassing sepsis, ARDS, acute exacerbations of COPD or asthma, acute renal failure, metabolic crises, etc., and postoperative complications including postoperative monitoring for major operations like neurosurgery, complex abdominal, orthopedic, and cardiovascular procedures.The department operates as a high-volume, multi-specialty Intensive Care Unit (ICU), handling around 200 new admissions per month. Our team routinely performs advanced bedside procedures such as percutaneous tracheostomy, bronchoscopy, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and USG-guided interventions, ensuring timely and precise management in critical situations.The departments aim is to deliver 24/7 high-quality critical care through expert multidisciplinary coordination, seamlessly integrating specialists from obstetrics, surgery, trauma, medicine, anaesthesia, and nursing.

Equipment Strengths & Clinical Capabilites

Our team possesses strong expertise and infrastructure:
* We are equipped with 30 Advanced Anaesthesia Workstations that provide operational flexibility, maximize procedural safety, and support seamless continuity of care in high-volume operating theatres, procedural suites, and critical zones.
* Advanced Preoperative Monitoring ensuring optimal patient assessment and preparation before surgery.Integrated monitors support comprehensive vital parameter tracking, ECG, SpO2, EtCO2, invasive arterial pressures, cardiac output, anesthesia depth (e.g. BIS/Entropy), temperature, and ventilator waveforms.
* The department is equipped with four advanced ultrasound machines, providing real-time guidance for a wide range of procedures including peripheral nerve blocks, regional anesthesia, vascular cannulation, and critical care assessments like focused cardiac and lung ultrasounds.
* 5 flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopes, that are Crucial for managing difficult airways, advanced airway management, awake intubations, and airway evaluations in both elective and emergency settings.
* Our capabilities include Awake Craniotomy, where we employ sophisticated neuromonitoring techniques. We are using specialized Transcranial Doppler for real-time cerebral assessment, ensuring optimal patient safety and outcomes during complex procedures.
* Our Intensive Care Unit features a dedicated in-house blood gas analyzer, which provides critical diagnostic data. This capability ensures prompt decision-making and crucial for timely interventions and improved outcomes.

Clinics

The department operates several dedicated specialty clinics aimed at providing focused and comprehensive care. These include:
1. Pre-Anesthesia Checkup (PAC) Clinic
2. Pain Clinic
3. Geriatric PAC Clinic
The department oversees a high-volume outpatient pre-anaesthetic evaluation service, conducting nearly 3,500 patient consultations each month between the general PAC Clinic and the Eye Anaesthesia Clinic. The PAC Clinic serves for elective surgery patients from diverse specialties, offering structured preoperative assessments that include medical history review, physical examination, risk stratification (ASA status), and tailored diagnostic testing guided by evidence-based protocols. These consultations are conducted by multidisciplinary teams of anesthesiologists. Acute pain services on demand.

Specialized Services

1. Renal transplant services: In 2024, we proudly launched dedicated anaesthesia services for renal transplant surgeries. Since then, our team has successfully managed over 22 complex transplant cases, demonstrating our expertise and commitment to patient care in this specialized area.
2. Day-care anesthesia services: The department delivers highly efficient day care anaesthesia for an estimated 70 electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) sessions and 50 MRI procedures per month.
3. The Peripheral Resuscitation and Trauma Care Services: The department provides a comprehensive Peripheral Resuscitation Service within the emergency and trauma setting, focusing on rapid stabilization of critically ill medical and trauma patients.
4. Accreditation for transplant services: Our department plays a pivotal role in the region by providing accreditation for transplant services and granting permission to other institutes across Haryana. Additionally, we oversee a dedicated Brain Stem Death Certification Committee, which issues essential certifications to various healthcare institutions.
