About the Department

The Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, established in 1963, has grown to become one of the largest departments in the institute, providing comprehensive services to both basic and super-specialty disciplines. Under the leadership of Dr. S.K Singhal, Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology, the department comprises 49 consultants, 24 senior residents, and 130 postgraduate students. His leadership and guidance were instrumental in transforming the department's academics, infrastructure, and innovations. The departmentdelivers anaesthesia services to over 8,000 patients each month across a wide range of clinical settings, including surgical theaters, intensive care units, pain management, and non-operating room anaesthesia services. The department also manages state-of-the-art, 50-critical care beds, offering advanced critical care services round the clock.In 2024, we initiated anaesthesia services for renal transplant and have successfully managed over 17 cases to date. The department played a pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic, with our team providing frontline care that included ventilatory support, advanced monitoring, emergency resuscitation, and 24/7 ICU coverage.
